Welcome Message

Message from the Conference Chair

On behalf of the Organizing Committee from The University of Western Ontario, we look forward to welcoming you to the 102nd Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CCCE 2019) in Québec City, one of Canada’s most beautiful, historic and culturally rich cities.

The conference theme is “Celebrating IUPAC’s 100th Anniversary: Canada's Place in Global Chemical Research, Innovation and Education.” As a global chemistry citizen, Canada has been actively involved in many chemistry related activities and shares the core values of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). Our theme is meant to recognize this shared link and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of IUPAC.

With your participation, the conference will enjoy a world class technical program that will cover all areas of chemistry and their interfaces with different disciplines. We are pleased to announce that Professor Zhenan Bao of Stanford University will deliver the opening lecture on “Skin-Inspired Organic Electronic Materials and Devices”.

Additionally, we are planning several special events:

  • “Science Advocacy: Developing Relationships, Communicating Effectively a forum featuring Mona Nemer, (Canada’s Science Advisor), Molly Shoichet (former Ontario Science Advisor), Mario Pinto (President of NSERC) and Rémi Quirion (Québec Science Advisor);
  • “The Importance of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for a Stronger Chemical Community,” a special symposium with another plenary lecture, highlighting Canadian diversity in chemistry;
  • “Chemistry and Canada2067: The Future Starts Now”, a research symposium for undergraduate students;
  • “Chemi-STEAM: Putting the A in STEM,” a unique exhibition where delegates will be invited to submit images or pictures that highlight chemistry’s artistic and aesthetic values.

We welcome and appreciate the support from sponsors whose financial support provide a solid foundation for the scientific program and whose active participation in the conference add to the rich diversity of the conference.  We look forward to the chemical presentations, the fruitful discussions, catching up with old friends and making new acquaintances. We hope you will join us and also take time out to appreciate the beauty of Québec City and enjoy its hospitality.

See you in Québec City!

Message from the CSC President

On behalf of the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC), I invite you to attend our 102nd Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CCCE 2019) from Monday, June 3 to Friday, June 7, 2019 in Quebec City, QC.

This annual gathering continues to be Canada’s premier conference for chemistry and the chemical sciences.  Success breeds other issues and our need to utilize large venues in major centers has necessitated innovative approaches to allow for Canada’s chemistry and chemical science communities located in any location of the country to participate in the planning of the conference. This year we are experimenting with a “remote host model” and we are pleased that Professor Yining Huang is chairing the Organizing Committee from London, Ontario and the University of Western Ontario. Prof. Huang is assisted by Technical Program Co-Chairs Professors Mark Workentin and Paul Ragogna and others in his committee. The organizing team also includes the support from the experienced team in the national office, the Board of Directors of the CSC and a multitude of volunteers.

The technical program looks amazing and is packed with special events, some new for 2019 and some specific to CCCE 2019. I invite you to learn more in Professor Huang’s welcome letter.

We believe that CSC members who engage in this premier event will realise personal value as well as see value to the field of chemistry and chemical sciences in Canada. Personal value will be realised through building your network and community, learning about new technologies, advancing your career through engaging in the many opportunities provided to meet potential future supervisors, peers and employers, and joining us in recognition of the great advancements in the field.

The CSC is in the midst of revitalization spearheaded by an enthusiastic and aspirational board of directors supported by our dedicated and passionate staff teamWe are all keen to ensure that our society continues to provide meaningful benefit to membership. With this in mind, we are planning annual feature events that support our four value cornerstones. While the Technical Program Committee is designing a top-notch scientific program to keep you at the cutting edge of chemistry, CCCE 2019 will also feature special events which will help you elevate your networking skills through a multitude of social and special events, learn about what is developing in the chemistry industry in Canada in the industry program, advance your career through learning about new technologies and methods, and recognize Canada’s best in the chemistry and chemical sciences field during award lectures and the awards banquet.

I invite you to join me in Quebec City for what promises to be a very exciting and rewarding experience at CCCE 2019!  See you there.
